Richard Tifft Obituary

Richard Tifft, 93, passed away on June 15, 2010, at a local care center. He was born on January 10, 1917, in Worthington, MN, to Cale and Nellie Tifft. At a very young age he moved with his parents to Fowler, KS, where he grew up and graduated from high school. In 1942 the family moved to Kiowa, CO, where he helped his parents run a cattle ranch until their deaths. Richard married Helen Pottenger Phillips on August 18, 1957. Upon his retirement from ranching in 1979, they moved to Colorado Springs. Helen preceded him in death in 1994. He was a Christian all his life and was very active in the Elbert Christian Church and later the Academy Christian Church in Colorado Springs. Richard is survived by his two step-daughters, Norma Cowan (Donald) of Baton Rouge, LA and Elaine Hobden (William) of Manitou Springs, CO. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Barry Cowan of Baton Rouge, LA, Cindy Oubre (Steve) of Tualatan, OR, Tina Cowan of Chandler, AZ, Timothy Hoeglund (Louise) of Englewood, CO, and Tawni Hoeglund (Robert) of Ballwin, MO as well as seven great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and numerous cousins. Friends may call from 1 to 4 on Sunday, June 20 at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Avenue and a Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Academy Christian Church, 1635 Old Ranch Road (Highway 83 and Old Ranch Road). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Colorado Christian Service Camp, PO Box 36, Como, CO 80432 or to the Academy Christian Church.
