Richard Walther Obituary

Richard Matthew Walther, age 77, passed away peacefully January 22, 2014, at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born on June 12, 1936, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to George and Louise Walther. He graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan and later served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961.

On April 11, 1964, he married Artiss Rae Saucier in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. They had two sons. He operated his own business for 13 years before moving his family to Colorado in 1977. He was employed by King Soopers grocery stores and retired in 1999.

Richard was a very talented landscape painter and spent countless hours in his home studio creating beautiful pieces of art. He taught painting to others for many years and formed many longtime friendships through his classes.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His quick wit, great sense of humor, artistic talent and patient teaching style will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Artiss; his youngest son, Kyle C. Walther; and a nephew, John Walther.

He is survived by his son, Aaron R. Walther of Colorado Springs; two grandchildren, Justin Walther and fiancée, Alena, and Kayleigh Walther, all of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Joseph Walther and wife Helene of Colorado Springs; a sister, Georgianna Steger and husband Herbert of Appleton, Wisconsin; a brother, Terry Walther and wife Sue of Plantation, Florida.

He is also survived by his dear brother-in-law, LeRoy Saucier and wife Stirling of Columbia, Connecticut, as well as numerous friends.

The family would like to thank Pikes Peak Hospice for the compassionate care throughout Richard's illness.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 28, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive.

Donations may be made in Richard's honor to the American Diabetes Association or the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

My deepest sympathies to the Walther family. I studied under Richard for a short time but remember his patience and kindness. My paintings still hang in our home. It was an honor to know him.

A sad day to learn of Richards death.
I count it a privilage to have had
Richard as my art teacher for over 30 years. Such a talented man arranging flowers or painting a masterpiece.
Thank you Richard for sharing your talent.

I knew Richard while growing up in Sheboygan. His home was on 11th and Huron and I was on 10th and Huron. His Grandmother and Grandfather lived two doors down from us. Dick was a wonderful friend. He loved flowers and arranging them.
