Riley Winters Obituary
Riley Calen Winters was born on February 21, 2001 in Honolulu, Hawaii to William Ray Winters and Lucrecia Guzman Sjoerdsma. She went to Antelope Trails and Discovery Canyon Campus Elementary Schools and then Discovery Canyon Campus Middle and High School.
She was involved in softball and track, loved rocks and rock climbing, was a member of the SCC Climbing Club and was a talented young artist. She was a member of Rock Family Church, The Barn, Young Life and B2Teen. Riley liked to ski and hike all around Colorado. She was a budding archeologist who loved plants, bugs, nature, fishing, and hunting with her dad. She also loved trips up to the family cabin at Bear Trap Ranch, near Cripple Creek and enjoyed going to beaches all over the country with mom and Joel.
She leaves behind her parents: William (Alexandra) Winters, and Lucrecia (Joel) Sjoerdsma. She is also survived by her brothers: Phillip Chase Winters and William Cade Winters; her sisters: Aubriana Raine Winters and Ainsley Brielle Winters, and her grandparents: Zoila (Jorge) Leiva of Guatemala and Mary Gromko of Colorado Springs and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles throughout Colorado, Oregon, Maryland, Guatemala, Michigan, and North Carolina.
Memorial Service, 10:00AM, Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Rock Family Church, 4005 Lee Vance View, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Memorials may be made to the GoFundMe account in her name.
Riley will be remembered best by all who loved her for the many kindnesses and acts of caring she showered on her many friends, classmates and family members. She was never without an encouraging word, hug, and heartfelt smile.
Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

I am saddend by your loss of Riley. Not having had the pleasure of meeting Riley, I can surmise from the all the comments I have read about her she was an accomplished young soul. She is now with the angels to continue her good works. May she rest in peace and may you all find peace.

First, we are so sorry for your loss. I am very thankful for the time I got to spend with Riley at Frontier Ranch a couple weeks ago. Tomorrow morning Team Young Life (a cycling team) has a training ride scheduled at the same time as Riley's memorial service. While I am sad we cannot attend the service we are praying for you, that God will reveal Himself to family and friends in new ways, and that you can grieve well. Tomorrow morning we will "ride for Riley."

Lucrecia and family, I am devastated by your loss and my heart breaks for your family. I will always remember Riley as a sweet kind soul who joined in our various occasions and meetings for work. She encouraged and got me to try a few different things to include foods. I will never forget the time at Tuscanos when she got me to try chicken hearts. She has left an impression on my heart forever. Please know that you and your entire family are in my prayers and thoughts all the time. For Riley's siblings especially Chase I hold a special space for you. I too have lost a sibling too young, too soon, not being able to say good-bye and tragically. Peace be with you all.
