Rita Bourgault Obituary

Rita Bourgault, 57, of Fort Collins, formerly of Colorado Springs, passed away on July 26, 2010, after a courageous fight against lymphoma. She passed with the knowledge that she had the unconditional love of her family and friends surrounding her. Rita was born September 15th, 1952, in Coldwater, Michigan, the third of four children born to Floyd and Audrey Gerth. She spent her childhood in Michigan, Arizona, Nebraska, and Colorado, where she graduated from Widefield High School in 1970. She met the love of her life, Steve, in 1979, and they were married on August 9th, 1981 in Colorado Springs. Together they had two daughters, Megan and Kara. Rita was an incredible mother and wife-she taught her family the values of love, strength, perseverance, independence, and humor, and they feel proud to carry these gifts with them. Rita is survived by her mother, Audrey, her husband, Steve, daughters Megan and Kara, and Kara's husband Chris. Rita was able to witness Chris and Kara's wedding in her final days, which was an incredible gift to the entire family. Rita is also survived by brothers Mike and Randy, mother- and father-in-law Mary and Frenchie, brothers-in-law Greg and David, sisters-in-law Sondra, Michelle, Lisa, and Carolynn, sixteen nieces and nephews, two great-nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd, and sister, Teddi. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society c/o Vessey Funeral Service in Fort Collins. A celebration of life will be held at 10 am on Monday, August 2nd at the Colorado Welcome Center at 3745 E. Prospect Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525.

To the Bourgault Family and Audrey Gerth,

Rita and I dated for 4 years after high school. As I was preparing to graduate from CU and enter an uncertain and perhaps nomad Air Force career she felt she wanted to do other things. We went our separate ways and only talked at high school reunions. We last talked 10 years ago. She was so happy with her family and very proud of her daughters, just as I was with our family and so proud of our 3 young adults. That proved out the wisdom of her decision so many years ago. I forwarded her obituary to our Widefield HS class by an EMAIL Blast today. Rita was a terrific person! The Lord works in mysterious ways for reason we don’t always understand. I am sure she has moved on to an even better place. I’ll include you all in my prayers on her birthday (Sept 15th) every year.

To the Bourgault Family,

It has been many years ago that I remember Steve and Rita's marriage. I am sorry to hear of her passing and I send my condolences to the family.
