Rita passed away in her sleep the morning of July 21st, 2019. She was 92. Rita was born in Pueblo, Colorado on September 12th, 1926 to Vera (Freeman) Norton, and Harold Norton. Rita was passionate about taking care of others. She was a nurse for thirty five years at Penrose Main in Colorado Springs. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Ortivez, son, Daniel Callaghan and daughter in law, Phatcharin Callaghan. Rita had five grandchildren; Thomas, Jesse, Kayla, Chloe, and Malena, and also five great-grandchildren; Sole, Sky, Layla, Ian, and Hunter, all of whom she loved and cherished dearly.
Please join us in honoring Rita on August 2nd, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

My grandma was such a kind hearted women she was always worried about everyone else❤ I'm so happy to say that she was my grandma and that she was also my best friend! Grandma I will forever keep you in my heart and I love you❤

I was very sad to hear of Grandmas passing. I was really lucky to have known her and loved her with all my heart. I'm sad I didn't get to say good bye. I know her and my sister Marion will be watching over us and keeping us safe. I am so sorry for your loss. Love you guys

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Rita Callaghan, passed away in her sleep this morning. She was 92.
By her nature, she dedicated her entire life to the care and comfort of others - both professionally and personally.
Those that knew her was a friend. She was an OB/GYN nurse for thirty five years at Penrose, a confidant, the best friend you could ask for, and a passionate lover of animals. She was loved by so many people that she came in contact with in her life.
We were all lucky to be touched by her love, her kindness, her sense of humor, and her unconditional gentle heart. I will always love you mom.
