I buried my hero, my Daddy yesterday - a send off he would have been so proud of. With the great Stars and Stripes he fought for - to keep this country free, the 21 gun salute and taps, it was just so fitting for him. For the past 5 years, I cared for my father and tried to keep him safe by placing him in the Veteran's Home, Walsenburg. I watched his decline -Alzheimer's is truly the long goodbye. Last week, I travelled from the Springs to be with him in Walsenburg everyday. I started hospice procedures on him Monday, April 18. He died the morning of my birthday. I am not sad about this, we shared a precious bond and his passing on my birthday sealed that bond for all eternity. I am honored to have been his daughter.
He was "My Daddy in the Fedora Hat."
It is extremely difficult for me to have lost him this way - I will miss him so much.
To everyone who has signed this guest book, I give my sincere thanks and appreciation. Lucy, please know that I am so delighted to read your email. Your precious promise to take flowers to my parents graves is very heartfelt and so appreciated by me. If you would email me back, I would like to be in touch.

To Dear Bob and his entire family...
My sympathies go out to all of you with the death of your father. I am certain that he is now in a better place without the signs of the illness he had to deal with for so long...which makes his leaving this place a blessing in disguise. I will be taking flowers out to the Forest to place on both of your parents graves very soon, I promise!

Greg,
I was sad to read of the death of your father. Many times I thought of him, especially on his birthday, which I remembered because it is also my mother’s birthday. We had several conversations at the local grocery store over the years. When I did not see him anymore, I wondered what became of him, how he was doing, if he was well.
Please accept my deepest condolences. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers during the visitation this afternoon and the services tomorrow as well as in the days to come. I know you will all miss him. He will never be forgotten.

I never met my Uncle Robert as well as his brother Paul...my dad, however, I have no doubt that they were the best of men.

Patti, again I'm so sorry for your loss. I have sent the tribute to the Cortez Journal for them to print as I'm sure he had friends here. Take care and I've got a shoulder for you if you need it. :)
