Mr. Bartelma was my Earth Science teacher at North Junior High School in Colorado Springs in the middle 1960s. He was a young, very tall good looking man and the most kind instructor. He made learning fun and interesting and I will always remember when he invited his students to his home to look through a large telescope to study the planets and stars. He taught us a rhyme to help us remember the planets in order from the sun. I went on to become a registered nurse in California where I am now retired. I had a heart transplant in 2014 and took an early retirement from nursing. A profession I truly have passion for. Mr. Bartelma inspired me to further my studies in the science and chose medicine. Mr. Bartelma was a memorable teacher and I will always treasure the wonderful man he was and forever grateful for his passion to teach and guidance. He was an inspiration to so many of his students. Mr. Bartelma will always be remembered for his kindness and passion to share his knowledge in science. With the warmest respect always.

I had the good fortune to work with Bob at both North Junior and Russell Junior/Middle Schools. A recipient of the Crystal Apple Award in District 11, he was recognized as an outstanding science educator. He firmly believed in hands on experiences for his students in the classroom, and was the driving force in the Grand Canyon and Missouri River interdisciplinary field trips. He enriched the lives of hundreds of students. We remember him with admiration and affection.

Mr. Bartelma is the singular reason I developed my love of the sciences that vaulted me into a career in medicine. His classroom filled with jars of the unusual, taxidermy animals, and posters of scientific happenings was a wonderful escape in Junior high. He taught us science through hands on experiments, field trips, hikes, and even once with a visit to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I will be forever grateful for his passion to share his love of the biological world.

My family and I have many good memories of Bob and Jan and girls from our days as neighbors in Colorado Springs. Bob blessed his students and many others and it was our privilege to know him and his family. May you know the Lord's comfort and blessing as you mourn a wonderful man! With love,
