Robert "RJ" was born in Indiana and raised by his loving mother Miriam and step-father Earl Campbell outside the small town of Huntington, IN. RJ came to Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 18 to start work as a young CPA. RJ quickly found a life in the outdoors and was an avid runner, hiker and prolific mountain climber. In 1972, RJ met his soon to be wife, Diane on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. The two shared adventures around the world together, with destinations shaped around his love of the mountains and music. RJ was a talented classical pianist, with some of his favorite composers being Rachmaninoff, Liszt and Mark-Andre Hamelin. He was a dedicated CPA, spending long hours at work, and often taking on extra clients when already overfull helping defend their cases in many divorce trials. He retired in 2013 after a 52 year career. RJ was a man of strong convictions and a drive that kept him climbing mountains into his 80's, determined to "get that pogey" (his remaining tick list peaks). He climbed nearly 200 of the highest peaks in Colorado and technical routes around the world. His bright blue eyes, smile, sly wit and drive will be missed by many.
RJ was preceded in death by his wife Diane, who died during the pandemic (May 21, 2020) and his brother Harold Campbell (Fremont, IN 2015). He is survived by their children; son Tim and daughter-in law Evrim (Colorado Springs), and daughter Shelly (Phoenix, AZ), five grandchildren and one great grandson. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2025 at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post, from 4-6pm. We will celebrate RJ and Diane both, as gathering after her passing was not possible. Donations in RJ's memory may be made to the Palmer Land Conservation, American Alpine Club, Access Fund, Trails and Open Space Coalition, or Rocky Mountain Field Institute, all organizations close to RJ's heart. Great memories of RJ climbing with him in Colorado, Canadian Rockies, Switzerland and attempts in Scotland. We had some great climbs together and some harrowing experiences.

Worked with RJ for years on many divorce cases. He was the best because he never bought into the "crazy" and he explained things in plain English. He always called it right down the middle and was usually spot on with his analysis. A Renaissance man who was a musician and a reader of history and he loved to climb on ice! He will be missed.
