Robert Edwards Obituary

Mr. Robert E. Lee Edwards went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2013. He was born in Rayville, Louisiana, on April 13, 1920, to the parentage of Ollie Levy and Jim Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Nelson and Fred Levy; wife, Lucinda Davis; brothers, James Waters, Joseph Nelson, Robert H. Ford, Johnny Edwards, Isaac Edwards, Sr., and Willie Edwards; sisters, Elvie Nelson, Jennie V. Nelson, Mildred E. Smith and Louise E. Jackson; son, James W. Euell, Jr.; grandchildren, Sylvia Thomas and Eric Thomas. Mr. Edwards is survived by: brothers, King Nelson, California, and Jimmie Edwards (Lue), Texas; sisters, Harriett E. Hendrix, California and Martha E. Tribble, Louisiana. Children: Shirley J. Mahone, Louisiana; Mary L. Jones, Illinois; and Marilynn Edwards, Colorado. Grandchildren: Greg Euell (Paula), Cheryl Robinson (Larry), Demetrix Thomas (Dale) and Euell Thomas (Antoinette) all of Louisiana; Kenneth Jones and Keith Jones of Illinois; Sharlae Euell, June Euell, Carla Garnett and Alfreda Barrett of Michigan; Sherelle Hinton-Foster, of Kentucky; Samuel Jenkins (Suba) of Maryland; Carlotta Bacon (Michael) of Texas; Aisha Young, Jamila Young, Imani Young and Lateefah Young of Colorado. 23 great-grandchildren along with Cameron A. Young and Maxis R. Young of Colorado, and 6 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and loved-ones. Robert Edwards served his country during World War II in the Philippines and received a Bronze Star, among other medals. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home to Louisiana. He relocated his family from Louisiana to Michigan during the "Great Migration" and worked in the auto industry for over 25 years. He relocated to Colorado from Michigan in 1988 and attended Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church faithfully until his health failed him. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, at Angelus Chapel, 1104 S. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 3615 Vickers Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918, Saturday, March 16, 2013, Viewing from 9-10:00 a.m., following with funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment Evergreen Cemetery.
