COL Haubrich was first introduced to me from a very striking portrait I noticed in the room of one of my best friends, and his only son Mike. I noticed his 101st Airborne screaming eagle combat patch and many rows of stacked, colorful award ribbons. I got to know him over the years and was lucky enough to have him accompany me to my old stomping grounds at the AF Academy just a quick jaunt from his home. I have been to Iraq twice but he served in a hostile combat zones with unknown Enemy and hostile people back in the US. COL Haubrich was not only an extremely well educated Brigade level commander, but he was a great and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He raised a son who is as close to a brother as I have had. He will miss him, as well as many other people. A proud, brave warrior has passed, but like a monument or an historic book or story - the ripples of continous effect and memories will never cease. HOOAH !

"Uncle Bob" was the only uncle I knew growing up. Along with my own father he represented what a man of honor was, and that played a role in my own military service. The one time I was able to visit in Colorado Springs was special. My thoughts and prayers are with Raini and Michael.

Toni and I send our deepest condolences for your loss. The fact that his son turned out so well is the best tribute to a father. We will keep you and Rachel in our thoughts.
