Robert James Obituary

Robert T. James passed away in Florence Montana on June 13, 2015 at the age of 92.

Bob was born in North Platte Nebraska on February 21, 1923 to Harry Gaston James and Helen Marcelle Tatom. His family all worked on the railroad. He served in all three of the major US services. Though he was underage, he was in the Army National Guard during high-school, mostly because he could type. Bob served in the Navy during World War II as a float plane door gunner in the Pacific theater where he saw combat at Wake Island. He later was a JAG officer in the Air Force in Cheyenne. As an attorney, Bob was easy to spot in court, with his habitual bow tie and bright red hair.

He came back from WWII to Denver CO and earned his Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate at DU. In 1946, he married Sara Catherine Lyon and they started a family. Suzanne Carol James was born in 1948, and Philip Robert James in 1950. They were later divorced

In 1960, he married Edythe Anne Burton, and after working in different areas of law, he settled in Colorado Springs in general practice. He then began to practice in the area of public utilities with clients including Tri-State, Colorado Ute, Holy Cross, and Mountain View Electric before the Colorado Utilities Commission and in eminent domain actions.

Bob retired from law in 1986, went back to college to get a degree in psychology, became a certified Master hypnotic therapist, and did years of hypnosis research. He wrote a book called PASSPORT TO PAST LIVES, wrote many peer-reviewed journal articles, and lectured nationally concerning hypnotic age regression.

Bob had wide ranging interests, from Puccini operas, pre-Columbian art, pictographs and petroglyphs, anthropology and physics. Never a dull moment.

He is survived by Suzanne James Artley (Don) of Florence, MT and Philip Robert James of Denver, CO, five grand-children, and one great-grand child. His life was enriched by special friends Terry and Carolyn Hendricks, colleague Sydney Heflin, and adventure travel companion Joan Mieritz.

I am sorry to learn of Bob's passing. We enjoyed having Bob as a member of the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society. My most memorable time with Bob was hiking at Three Rivers Petroglyph Site in New Mexico. He so wanted to see all the petroglyphs but that is impossible unless you stay a months! Together we saw some magnificent "blankets", shields and faces wrapped around edges of rocks...these were on a tall outcropping of rocks. We must of looked nuts since your dad was using a cane and we slowly made it up and over all those rocks. We discovered many rock pictures that day. It was probably my most memorable field trip because Bob shared his great sense of humor while we walked. Great time! He will be missed.
