Robert Mangone Obituary

Colonel Mangone passed away on September 27, 2005, at the age of 84. He was born on June 16, 1921, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to Patsy and Myrtle Mangone.  Colonel Mangone was a member of the United States Air Force and served his country for 28 years. He started his Air Force career in 1942 as an Aviation Cadet in Santa Maria, California, and was commissioned in 1944. He served in the European Theater in World War II, and additionally served in the Korean conflict and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His medals include a Legion of Merit and an Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. After retiring from the Air Force, Colonel Mangone successfully established The Mangone Insurance Agency and retired a second time to pursue his love of golf. He lived in Colorado Springs for 42 years and will be remembered as an aviator, warrior, sportsman, golfer, and friend. Colonel Mangone is survived by his wife, JoEllen Mangone, MD. Colonel Mangone is survived by his children: Patricia E. Sokol, Robert P. Mangone, II, and Jeffery Mangone.  He is the grandfather of eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is survived by three of his six siblings, brothers: Kenneth and Thomas and his sister, Margaret. Brothers: Paul and Merle and his sister, Patricia predeceased him. Memorial and burial services are scheduled at Fort Logan on October 3, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends donate to Bob Hope Village at Air Force Enlisted Village, 92 Sunset Lane, Shalimar, Florida 32579-1000, or to other armed forces support or relief funds.
