Robert Mathis Obituary

Mr. Robert L. Mathis was born August 10, 1931 in Griffin, GA to Robert O. Mathis and Thelma Stroud. He attended Vocational High School in Griffin, GA and was known in the community as Bopeep. At the age of 17, he joined the army - In the course of his tour, he met and married Annie I. Elder on January 2, 1959. Robert served in the Army for 30 years and he also retired from the Springs Transit Co. Robert passed away peacefully on November 20, 2010 after a long courageous battle with COPD. Robert is survived by his devoted wife Mrs. Annie Mathis, Two sons: Mr. Kenneth (Rosalind) Mathis, Mr. Carlton (Sabrina) Mathis. Five grandchildren Shakira Pankey, Kaira Mathis, Shariefa Mathis, Jamon Turner and Dominique Mathis. One great grandchild Lanaia Lampkin. Four Sisters: Mrs. Odessa Jackson and Ms. Mary Williams of Griffin,GA. Ms. Mary Lucius Mathis of Miami, FL. Mrs. Cynthia Lucas of Salina, KS. Brothers Mr. Tommy Stroud, Aunt, Mrs. Jeanette Byrd of Atlanta, GA. Sister-in-law Mrs. Gail (Willie) Norwood from Diamond Bar, CA and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Ms. Thelma Stroud, father Robert Mathis, sister Ms. Annie Smith, grandson Keilynn Bridges and brother Mr. Albert O. Mathis Visitation will be held at 2:00-6:00 PM on Sunday November 28, 2010 at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors, 1104 S. Circle Drive. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday November 29, 2010 at Soldiers' Memorial Chapel, 6333 Martinez St., Colorado Springs
