Major Robert "Bob" R. Mazzucco (Retired)
Major Robert (Bob) R. Mazzucco (retired) of Galveston, Texas was interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full honors on November 21, 2017. He passed away November 29, 2016, with his wife at his bedside, of Parkinson's disease at the age of 86.
Bob spent many years in the Colorado Springs area after his retirement in 1968. He loved skiing and was a member of the Blazer Ski Club which visited slopes in Colorado and neighboring states. He also enjoyed golfing, hiking, bicycling, reading (especially history) and communicating with friends, family and his military contacts from 20 years of service.
Bob enlisted in the Marines after high school and was in the Korean War with the 2nd Marine Division. He was highly decorated including the Korean Service Medal (3stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Navy Unit Commendation. He was then recommended to Officer's Candidate School where he was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant.
After 9 years as a Marine, Bob changed services to the U. S. Army joining the Army Security Agency. He served with the 600th USASA Co. in Vicenza, Italy; then the U. S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (Saigon). His last duty station was with SHAPE Headquarters Brussels. Decorations during his last 11 years in the Army include the Army Commendation Medal w/oak left cluster and Vietnam Medal of Honor 1st Class.
Surviving Bob are his wife Edie, League City, Texas and his children: Michelle (Teresa) Mazzucco, Ashville, NC; Jan Mazzucco, Huntersville, NC; Bob Mazzucco, Charlotte, NC and Stephen and Mindy Mazzucco, Pendleton, IN. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Derek and Joanne Webster, Chino, CA and Tamara (Angie) Webster, San Diego, CA. Bob left behind 5 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren.
