Robert McDonald Obituary
Originally from Dearborn Michigan, "Mack", "Pops", or "Grampy", as he was best known by his friends, family, and grandkids, was a resident of Colorado Springs for 41 years. He joined the Army in 1956, proudly serving his country in Vietnam, and for 24 years, before retiring as a highly decorated soldier, and Sergeant Major, in 1980.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sally, daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Ron Hannah, son James and granddaughters Brittany, and Erin. He also loved being "Grandpaw" throughout the years to all of the pets within his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Janet McDonald, and by his brother, Jon "Skip" McDonald.
Mack enjoyed wood-working and volunteering at the Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center. He would tell you that these were his versions of therapy, and he was fortunate enough to be able to touch many lives through both of these endeavors.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Both of these occasions will be at Swan-Law Funeral Directors 501 N. Cascade, Colorado Springs, CO. Burial will occur immediately after the Funeral Service at Evergreen Cemetery 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, CO. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Vista Grande Baptist Church 5680 Stetson Hills Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in honor of Robert "Mack" McDonald to Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center 13620 Halleluiah Trail, Elbert, CO. 80106

Mack was such a blessing to us and a wonderful friend. He was a great storyteller and had a special gift of making everyone feel loved and accepted. We will miss his big smile and jolly personality.
