Robert Nash Obituary

Robert H. Nash was born November 8, 1938 in Friday Harbor, WA. and died on June 10, 2006 in Anacortes, WA. His 67 years with us always brought adventure. After graduating in high school in 1956 then serving four years in the Air Force at Westover Air Force Base, Chicopee Falls, MA., Robert and his young family came to Colorado Springs and established Nash Construction Company providing skilled and specialized carpentry and building to our region for 45 years. He grew up on the ocean working in the fisheries so the call of the sea also lured Robert into commercial salmon and halibut fishing in Kenai, AK. and Puget Sound, WA. These two passions allowed him to spend each year surrounded by the beauty of both mountains and sea. In addition, he partnered with family to create the Nash Brothers Buffalo Works Fishing Charter Company on San Juan Island, WA. An avid sportsman, accomplished hunter and fisherman, Robert found great joy in many outdoor pursuits. From early experiences spear fishing under the docks, jump shooting ducks before school, training dogs for field work, trolling for salmon, jigging for cod, setting up decoys for duck and geese, walking the pivot or draw for pheasants, standing on the edge of a high mountain lake or stream, fly and bubble for trout or pursuing deer and elk, Dad was in his element. Spending time with friends at the annual salmon barbeque, visiting at the auction or estate sale, looking for a tractor to restore, playing poker or dice, finding another antique ranch implement or re-telling an exquisite story of recent or past conquest; his manner, delivery and enthusiasm would hold you in rapt attention. He probably read every good western written two to three times and provided the inspiration that the good guy always wins. He earned the Air Force Longevity Service Award and Good Conduct Medal and was a member of Pheasants Forever as well as the American Legion Post 163. He also participated in an experimental drug study for heart failure. Robert touched many lives as a son, brother, father, grandpa, uncle, cousin and reliable friend. He is preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Edna; brothers: William and Richard; sister, Patricia; sister-in-law, Shirley; brother-in-law, Ray; and daughter, Jennifer. He is survived by his sister, Nancy; sons: Steven and Jeremy; mother of his children, Elaine; daughter-in-law, Dawn; grandchildren: Connor and Kylie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Two Memorial Services will be held: Thursday, June 22, 2006, 11:30a.m., Valley Cemetery, Madden Lane, San Juan Island, WA. A reception will follow at the Grange Hall, 1st Street, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, WA. From 1:00-5:00 p.m. The second Memorial Service is on Saturday, July 8, 1:00p.m. at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 950 Vindicator Drive, Colorado Springs, CO. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert's honor to the University of Colorado Hospital-Heart Failure Treatment Program, 4200 East Ninth Avenue, B120, Denver, CO. 80262 or the American Heart Association. Dad we miss you and will love you always.

Ms. Nash,

I'm sorry you lost him. I know he was special to you. He is with your little girl now. Free of pain. You gave me a lot of great memories when you taught me in kindergarten. I'm sure you gave him a lot of great memories too. God bless you and your family. Mommy and I will be praying for you.
