Robert B Payne, 78, of Colorado Springs, passed away 10/05/2021. He was born in Washington, D.C. on 09/07/1943 to Earl and Eleanor Payne. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary. He spent most of his career as an Army Chaplain, as well as a counselor and pastor for a few years after the Army. He was a member of the Military Officers Association. He had a passion for skiing, sailing, photography, chess, theology, and the Cincinnati Reds.
Robert is preceded in passing by his parents, his sister Joyce McDermott, and his son Robert "Bobby" Earl Payne. He leaves behind his devoted wife Mary "Winnie" Payne, as well as daughters Jennifer (Steve) Lee of Salida, CO; Emily (Adam) Croll of Gaithersburg, MD; grandchildren Sophie and Maia Lee; Ethan Robert Croll; and brother Earl (Sylvia) Payne.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Pikes Peak Citizens for Life, Homefront Military Network, or Springs Rescue Mission.

Bob was a man above men. His commitment and passion was exhilarating (and at times exhausting). I served with him in the 2/11 ACR in Bad Kissingen West Germany, where Bob would always be looking after 'his men'. May his memory be a blessing.
