Robert Perkins Obituary

BRIDGEPORT>> Robert W. Perkins, 93, of Marina Drive and Forestport, passed away Friday evening, April 1, 2016, in Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, where he had been a resident since Monday.
Born in Syracuse on Aug. 29, 1922, he was the son of Arthur D. and Mary G. Havener Perkins. Bob was educated in Oneida and Stockbridge schools. He married Betty Steding in Munnsville on June 1, 1945 and they resided in Chittenango for many years, moving to Forestport in 1982, and returning to Bridgeport in 2011.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Perkins was a manager for 37 years with Chapman Gas Co. of Oneida which later became Ferrellgas, and was a former police officer with the Chittenango Police Department. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Division, in the Pacific Theater, where he was awarded the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained in Guam.
Bob was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Bridgeport, a 71-year member of the American Legion William Cain Post # 1287 and Chittenango and the Bear Creek Lodge Association for 35 years, and a former member of the Chittenango Fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife, Betty, are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael T. Sherlock of Bridgeport; his granddaughter Tracey Ann Cosgrove and her husband Peter; his late grandson's wife, Renae Sherlock; four great-grandchildren, Jamie Lynn and her husband, Chris Brayton, Robert Michael Williams, Michael Robert Sherlock, and Alicia Marie Sherlock; and one great-great-grandson, Michael Robert Sherlock, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Robert T. Sherlock; two sisters, Doris Perkins and Mary Irene Mosher; and four brothers Daniel, Otto, Donald, and Arthur Perkins.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m., Thursday from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Bridgeport, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment, with full military honors, will be made in Oakwood Cemetery. There are no hours of visitation.
