Robert Porter Obituary

Bob was born in Fort Morgan, CO August 23, 1924 to Alonzo Porter and Naomi Ruth Bowen Porter.

He passed peacefully April 25, 2016 at Pikes Peak Hospice, Penrose Hospital.

Bob's family moved to Manitou Springs when he was 7. He attended Manitou High School where he met his wife, Patricia. They were married March 22, 1943 and remained together until Patricia passed in 2008 after 65 years of marriage. They had three children.

Bob was a perfectionist and had a strong work ethic. He settled upon the occupation of Optician, rising to the top of his profession in Colorado Springs as a Master Optician and was named "Colorado Optician of the Year" in 1985. His career spanned many decades, and he is best known for his shop "Porter Optical" where for 30 years he was able to help the many interesting people who came to count on him to create one of a kind optical devices. He truly helped others to see.

Bob showed his adventurous side in the outdoors. He enjoyed mountain biking and hiking and was one of the first to ride his motorcycles on mountain trails. Bob was known for designing and riding scooters down the Pikes Peak Cog Rail. He and his wife Patti were also avid Square Dancers.

He is survived by sons, Dr. Lloyd Porter, Dr. Clyde Porter and daughter, Cindy Bansen (Peter). He has 10 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 27 great, great grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of Bob's life on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Gateway Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs. It is hoped that his many friends will join his family on this day to remember this unique and remarkable man.
