Robert Powell Obituary

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Bob Powell passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, Nov. 16 with Carol by his side. He died of natural causes at 7:30 p.m.

Carol and Bob were married for 47 years, a marriage where they delighted in each other's company with many people often remarking, "You two are always together."

We rejoiced in the marriage of our son Dustin to Robyn and 6 months ago they presented us with our only grandchild, Haleigh Olivia.

Bob is survived by his two sisters plus many brother and sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a dedicated psychotherapist who saw thousands of clients over 44 years, the last 20 years through his private practice in Woodland Park. Bob was instrumental in the construction of Pike's Peak Regional Hospital as well as a founder of the Woodland Music Series. He will be missed by many in the community.

Services will be held on Sat 11/22 @ 2pm at Mt View United Methodist Church in Woodland Park.

There is a quote that says "Some people enter your life and they quickly go away, some people stay for awhile and leave food prints on your heart" Bob definitely left foot prints in my heart, he was a remarkable man and although I tried many times I could never thank him enough for the help and changes in my life that he helped me make. To his family, I am so sorry for your loss of a loved one, and also thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.

Kathy & Becky, I am so sorry. I have great memories of Bob, as well as your mother and father. You all were such an important part of Spring Grove School and our little town of Galena. My heart goes out to you and also my deepest sympathies. There is a lot to be said for a life well-lived, and from what I've heard and read about Bob, he certainly had such a life.

Bob is the best. He helped me learn to live life with a disorder that has no fixing. He has helped me to live laugh love and grow for over 16 years. The life lessons will continue to help me live a while longer. Carol and family thank you for sharing Bob with so many to allow him to help and bring joy to so many. A trip to PPRH or a UPCC Concert will never happen without him in my fondest thoughts. I pray that one day I can tell him...I got the lesson, applied it my best and the results were so good. My Love to you all

Carol-Bob was one of a kind. I have a funny story that I will cherish: One day I was driving him to the airport and we got stuck behind some construction vehicles and they were hogging the whole road. At my first chance, I illegally passed all the vehicles and as they honked at us in protest, Bob was smiling and yelling "Power to the People!" Bob was for people...all people...and that is the #1 thing he taught me as I interned under him from 2010-2011. As a pastoral counselor now, if I encounter a challenging case, I sometimes find myself asking, "What would Bob do in this case?" And whatever I knew he would do, I do. I miss you, Bob, but I know I will see you again. Until then, Bob, thank you.

This week has been filled with such wonderful memories of Bob: his generous spirit, his fairness, his humor and his love.

I am far away, in a city dedicated to good times, one that Bob loved, one that I thought I would some day get to share with him.  I would like nothing more than to be at the service tomorrow, in the mountains, with the family Bob cherished above all.

Instead I am attending a smaller service tonight, at my favorite joint, where some of the finest players in town come together to blow.  There is never a cover charge and the best seat in the place is the one at the video poker machine next to the band.  That's my chair.  If I win I'll know Bob's there with me.  If I lose I'll know he's up to his old tricks and that it's going to require a trip to the Dome.

To Carole and the family Bob loved so dearly,
Bob saved my life and brought me back into the world again! He was the most polite and respectful, yet playful person I have ever met. Thanks to him. I met the man of my dreams and Bob married us 6 months ago in the most touching wedding we could have ever dreamed of having. Carole, he was always a full time supporter and love to you....and doted over all the family including Stella. Our hearts are broken for now: however, we will always have the wonderful memories and the big smile to remember. May the Angels hold him tightly in their wings and let him watch over us now.

All our love and prayers, Al and Martha Hagedorn

Bob was such a friend to Ed and I. I spoke to him just last week - he called just to say hi. That was the kind of friend - person he was. He would give his time to you - his knowledge, insight and always always with his calm and sincere voice. I will miss him - he left a void that will be hard to ignore!!! He was a gift!!

Bob was the first promoter in Colorado to give me a break back in the 90s. He was always so kind and generous to me and my band. He worked very hard for the music scene in Colorado Springs and Woodland Park. Thank you for all the wonderful memories Bob, I will miss you ... Teresa Lynne "Mistress of the Blues"

We met Carol and Bob several years ago as our daughter's future in-laws. We immediately loved them both and were grateful that Robyn would have such loving, caring people as her in-laws. Bob and Robyn shared interests professionally and he was able to give her insight regarding her career goals. Bob was such a kind, thoughtful, caring individual, it was hard not to instantly like this man on a grand scale! I remember the day Haleigh was born and he held her for the first time. With tears in his eyes he looked up and said, "I never thought this would happen in my life time". So full of joy knowing he had the opportunity to know our special granddaughter! It was wonderful to have him in our extended family! Bob, you will be missed tremendously by our entire family. Thoughts, prayers, and hugs to Carol, Dustin, and Robyn with all our love. Bob, I will miss your smile, laugh, and your huge, comforting presence here at MHM (same building where Bob saw patients). You were selfless in your dedication to your family, clients, and community and your legacy will live on through the music series, hospital, and the many other community service projects you helped bring to life. You will be sorely missed and remembered fondly.

Dear Carol and family,
Bob was a dear friend for all our time in Woodland. Kind and loving and smart, he always had answers at so many of our church meetings and he really helped us with the Health fairs. I think his love of music will be the most remembered especially jazz which is the favorite of George. He managed his health concerns for so many years without complaining. Love Always.
