Robert Preston Obituary

Preston, USAF (Ret.)

Robert Anthony

Preston, USAF (Ret.)

February 8, 1956

October 29, 2021

Robert Anthony Preston was born to Carl and Rita (Bowen) Preston on February 8, 1956 in Kingston, Jamaica.

He emigrated to the United States in 1967 with his father and siblings to join his mother in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Colorado Springs. He received an honorable discharge and after several jobs, he earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Robert had a career at the United States Postal Service, where he served for over thirty-seven years as a union official and American Postal Worker Union President 247.

Robert was a loving, caring husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and grandpapa and was always attentive to the needs and well-being of his family. He personified "cool".

He loved jazz and classic R&B music. He was an adventurer, willing to try new experiences, and loved to travel, especially to jazz festivals near and far. Earlier this year he completed his bucket list of visiting all fifty states.

Robert is preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deidra (Randolph); and children, Crystal, Randy, Nia (Joe); and grandson, Joseph. His mother, Rita; and siblings, Sonia, Carol, Howard, Denise (Lawrence), Michelle (Ferron), Carlene, Dianne, and Tony (Tracey). He leaves behind an aunt and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

Memorial Service, 10:00AM-11:30AM, Saturday, November 13, The Springs Funeral Services-North, 6575 Oakwood Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80923. Followed by a repast at King Solomon Baptist Church 910 Peterson Road. Service will be live-streamed.

Rob's life was about taking care of people. He was respectful towards others and loved his family immensely. He was a mentor for me, always willing to share information and boy could he talk your ears off. His laughter would resonate a room. I'll miss my brother he spent many years working for people and fighting for good causes. His passing leaves a huge void. So many depended on him, employees at USPS, Management, even those who retired continued to seek his advice after leaving work. He always answered their call. Our hearts are broken. To his family, I am Praying for you to be comforted knowing he is ok. He made it home and is at Peace in God's presence with him, the one that gave him the life he shared so abundantly with all. Thank God for the memories and time we had with him. Be encouraged you all will remain in my Prayers

Rob was always there for anybody who needed anything. His love and passion for helping create a better union, work place, and an all around better world for all of us was so evident.
We would always run into him at King Sooper´s and spend an extra 30 minutes or so just catching up.
Rob left some big shoes to fill in the Union. He absolutely loved the union. He did so much for all of us Postal employees.
He has absolutely left a hole in a lot of people´s hearts.
We send our love and prayers for his family. Losing him so unexpectedly is very difficult. I can only imagine the pain they are feeling.

I first met Rob in 1985; we worked at the plant on the now obsolete LSM. My first impression of Rob was his sweet spirit... he always had a smile and loved to laugh. Through the years, I watched his passion and dedication to his Union brothers and sisters come into full bloom. He amazed me; he always had time to listen and share his vast knowledge of any issue. I tried not to call on him too often because he had so much on his plate through the years. I always made sure before the end of our conversation to tell him how much I appreciated him. For this, I´m grateful. Losing Rob is an immense loss to our Union and our lives. He will be missed more than I can put into words. Sending hope and prayers of comfort and peace to Rob´s wonderful family. Rest peacefully Rob; you´ve earned your wings... With love and respect, Debbie
