Col Bob Rushmore died peacefully on November 7, 2024 in Colorado Springs with his wife and close friends at his side.
Son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Rushmore, Bob was born in Indianapolis, IN, and raised in Bradenton, FL. After earning a BA in Business Administration from Florida State University in 1962, he was commissioned into the Air Force in 1963 where he served honorably for the next 25 years.
Bob's active duty time included a combat tour in Viet Nam, seeing action in the Parrot's Beak area of Cambodia. He was a career personnel officer, retiring as the Director of Personnel and Manpower for Peterson AFB in 1988.
In 1965, while stationed at Sembach AB, Germany, Bob met his future wife, Carol, at the Berlin Templehof Airport Hotel. They were married a year later in St. Petersburg, FL. Bob was a devoted husband and loving father to his daughter Megan and son Michael.
His many friends remember Bob for his sense of humor, kindness, and unwavering positive attitude. They also remember Bob's lifelong penchant for buying and working on old trucks. Some Bob successfully rehabbed; some he didn't. (It's amazing what make us happy!)
Bob will be sorely missed. He is survived by Carol Rushmore, his wife of 58 years, his daughter, Megan Rushmore, his brother Thomas Rushmore, his nieces, Paige French and Elizabeth Rushmore, and his nephew, Thomas Rushmore. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Rushmore.
A memorial service will be held in Bob's honor on December 5 at 11:00 AM at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO. Following, at 2:00 PM, there will be a grave-side burial ceremony at Pike's Peak National Cemetary with full military honors.
