Robert Seivert Obituary

Robert Allen Seivert September 26, 1936 - August 19, 2015

Robert "Bob" Seivert passed away at home, surrounded by his family and wife of nearly 36 years, Ginger. He is at peace now after a short struggle with lung cancer.

Bob was born in El Paso, Texas and moved to Colorado Springs as a toddler. He attended area schools: Lowell Grade School North Junior High, a brief stint at St. John's Military, and graduated from Manitou High. He also attended Fort Lewis A&M in Durango. Bob served in the Army National Guard of Colorado and the US Army. Following his Army service he was owner-operator of several area businesses: Bud's Muffler, Superior Salvage and Fountain Valley RV Storage.

The racing world knew Bob Seivert. He intuitively understood all forms of vehicle mechanics with a special love of 4-wheel drive off-road vehicles. He was a 2-time winner (modified 4WD: 1969 and 1970) of the Mexican 1000 which later became the Baja 1000. He also drove in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, winner of the 1973 Truck Division (non-production) and the 1988 Class 8 Truck Division.

Everyone knew that Bob's blood ran pure gasoline and right up to this year he was still attending Jeep and racing events, could tell stories for hours, or help build you a special vehicle for that special race event. He traveled all over the state for races, as well as to California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and of course Mexico! Bob and Ginger married in Las Vegas, NV probably because there was a car race nearby.

Bob and Ginger loved to winter in Arizona, drive their latest RV around Colorado, never without their dog on these trips. Bob also attended Over The Hill Gang sessions. Bob and buddies could always be found rebuilding old vehicles or modifying everything in Bob's supersized garage.

Bob is survived by wife, Ginger, son Jeff Seivert (Kami) in Durango, step-children: Michelle Koehn (Rick) in Cripple Creek, Stirling Docterman in Durango, Laurie Hagenow (Kevin) of Green Mountain Falls, and grandchildren: Cameron and Chase Seivert, Erin VanOrden, Devon Mullane, Chory Gallagher, Jesse Docterman and 6 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Prospect Home Care and Hospice for their wonderful help in caring for Bob in his final weeks. Prospect especially thanks and honors our veterans in their time of need. Memorials would be appreciated to Prospect at 16222 W. Highway 24, Suit 120, Woodland Park CO 80863 as well as to American Legion Post 39, Manitou Springs, 634 Manitou Avenue, Manitou Springs CO 80829.

A celebration of Bob's remarkable life will take place on September 26, 2015 (would have been his 79th birthday). Please join us at the American Legion in Manitou Springs at 2:00 pm for a BBQ - side dishes welcome.

I remember Bob from when I was a little girl. Many garage visits, racing stories and long nights working on cars with my dad, Jerry Decker. He was a great man and will be missed.
There is one heck of a party going on in heaven.
