Robert Valerien Obituary

LTC Robert G. Valerien, USAF (Ret.) a resident of Colorado Springs since 1995 and formerly of Poquoson, Virginia and Bellevue, Nebraska passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. He was retired after serving his country for more than 20 years in the United States Air Force and then as a Department of Defense Contractor at SAC Headquarters at Offut Air Force Base. Robert Gerard Valerien was born on January 17, 1933 in West Warwick, Rhode Island to the late Albert O. and Bernadette R. (Chamberland) Valerien. He was a graduate of La Salle Academy and the University of Nebraska. He married Ruth Elizabeth Muckey on January 5, 1965 in Neligh, Nebraska. Bob was a member of the ORBS. When not in an activity with the ORBS, he loved skiing, bowling, golf and the great outdoors. Previously, he had been a Scout Master and coached boys soccer and girls softball teams. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his children: Barbara Valerien (Greg Neely) of La Vista, Nebraska; Robert G. Valerien, Jr. of Englewood, Colorado; Therese L. Valerien of Colorado Springs; Michael C. (wife, Jennifer) Valerien of Spokane, Washington; and his sister: Lucille (husband, Ron) Morrissette of West Warwick, Rhode Island. He is also survived by a granddaughter: Cathryn Salsbury-Valerien. A Service of Remembrance with Air Force Honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the chapel. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Boulevard. Private inurnment will take place on Monday at the Old Glory Columbarium at the Shrine of Remembrance. Memorials may be made to the MDA/ALS Center at the University of Colorado, Health Sciences Center, 4200 East Ninth Avenue, Box B-185, Denver, Colorado.
