Robert Winebrenner Obituary

Msgt. (USAF ret) Robert O. Winebrenner was born in Cumberland, Maryland on May 20, 1939 and passed away on August 4, 2017. His parents, Lt. Col. (ret) Victor M. Winebrenner and Eleanor E. Brinkman preceded him in death.

Bob grew up in an Army family stationed in Georgia, Maryland, and Japan. He loved being on his grandparent's farm near Mt. Savage, Maryland. Bob loved touring the United States with his Boy Scout Troop and told endless stories of that adventure.

He served proudly in the United States Army and later the United States Air Force. Cynthe and Bob met at March AFB where they both were assigned to the 33rd Communications Squadron. Their many assignments included England (RAF South Ruislip, High Wycomb, RAF Croughton,); Izmir, Turkey; Pleiku, Vietnam during the Tet offensive; March AFB, California, Andrews AFB, Washington DC (supporting Air Force One), Minot AFB, North Dakota; Lackland AFB, Texas; and Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. After retiring from the Air Force, he served as a civilian at NORAD as an AFIT trainer, followed by an assignment as a Satellite Scheduler at Schreiver AFB.

He is survived by Cynthe Ann Rainey Winebrenner, his wife of 50 years and his daughter Heather L. W. Weinert of Seattle, Washington, her husband, Alexander, and sons Owain and Dylan. He also is survived by his brother, Victor M. Winebrenner, Jr. of Powder Springs, Georgia, and his sister Lois Postil of Tucson, Arizona and her husband, Steve. His other sister Joy Moore of Aurora, Illinois, preceded him in death.

Bob loved being an AFS foreign exchange student host dad for Cathy, Fred, Eva, Giovanna, and Anne. As a USAFA cadet sponsor "dad" he delighted in seeing our cadets become officers to respect and love. Jannell, Viv, Lauren, Meng, Chris, Rob, Merwyn, Sean, and Travis, well done! Love to our bonus daughters, Leslie, Karin and their families.

He battled melanoma with the same steely grit he faced life. His wry sense of humor will be held close to us. We will remember his wonderful laugh and celebrate the joy in our lives every day.

Please consider donating in his name to www.crushkidscancer.org or www.pikespeakhospice.org

A celebration of life will be held at USAFA Arnold Hall on August 27, 2017 from 2-4 p.m.

An amazing man! An amazing career! I'm sorry that I never met him. I'm glad that my son and daughter-in-law were able to.
Love!
