Roberta Monroe Obituary

Roberta (Berta) Mitchell Monroe, 84, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2013 at Sunrise Senior Living at University Park. She was born near Maryville, MO on September 2, 1928, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Elementary Education and on June 11, 1950 married Howard. They were married for more than 55 years, until Howard's death in 2006. Berta taught elementary school for over 35 years, mostly in St. Louis, MO where she and Howard lived for many years and raised their two children, Libby and Bob. She moved to Colorado Springs with Howard in 1997 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Kiwanis and an avid gardener and reader. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, playing games and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her daughter Libby (Bob) Giardino of Colorado Springs; son Bob (Julie) Monroe of Loveland; and her grandchildren Cristie (Ben) Hoffman, Ryan and Joel Monroe, all in the Denver area and Robbie Giardino of Vail. Berta will be remembered by her immediate family in private at a later date.
