Roberta Ruth Wilson went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2024 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 90. She was born on January 12, 1934 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Jesse B. Colbert and Etta Colbert (Martin). Roberta was a devoted spouse to Lieutenant Colonel Francis Wilson, USA (Ret) and a loving mother to Major Frank Wilson, USAF (ret). She was a cherished member of her community, known for her kindness, wisdom, and solid faith in God.
Roberta comes from a family who originally came to the Colorado Springs area as pioneers in the 1850's. They are a family in which volunteering is a way of life. Roberta's career of active volunteering began when her son started pre-school in the late 1960's. She has served as a director of the Negro Historical Association of Colorado Springs, a director of the Colorado Natives' Club, as a member of the Board of Trustees with the Beth-El College of Nursing, and as a member of the William J. Palmer High School Accountability Committee. As a Palmer Alumna and founder and past president of the Palmer Alumni Association, Roberta contributed immeasurably to the school. She has been honored as a "Living Legend" by the students, faculty, administration, and the Alumni Association.
Roberta's deep religious faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a member of Morgan Memorial Chapel Church of God in Christ, and her faith guided her actions and inspired those around her.
If you knew Roberta, then you know she believed in family. People would gather at her house and experience her hospitality. Her home was full of love and caring. It was a place where the entire family would congregate for the holidays.
Roberta was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brothers Todd Colbert, Jesse Colbert, Ed Colbert, and John Colbert, her sisters Thelma Thomas and Betty Greene and her husband Lieutenant Colonel Francis Wilson, USA (Ret).
She is survived by her son, Major Frank Wilson, USAF (ret), daughter-in-law Rosemary Wilson, grandson Frank Wilson Jr (San Antonio, TX) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be remembered for her generosity, resilience, and faith in God and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. As Roberta used to say "Pray one for another."
