Rod Bunney Obituary

Rod Bunney, of Rio Verde, AZ, died in Scottsdale, AZ, at age 82 on October 17, 2015 surrounded by family. He was born in McCook, NE to Rollie and Wilma (Durrie) Bunney. After a few years living in Franklin, NE, the family moved to Omaha, where Rod attended Dundee Elementary School, graduated from Central High School. A Korean War veteran, Rod also earned a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in finance and economics from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Rod married Joan Bryson in Omaha, where they raised their three children, Brett, Brian, and Barbara. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1978. Rod shared his love for the outdoors with his family during camping trips and vacations, and as coach of his daughter's softball team and as a Boy Scout troop leader. He had a way of filling each day with fun and he always had a story to tell.

Joan died in 1985, and Rod later moved to Tucson, Arizona. He married Nancy (Taylor) Snyder of Fairbury, NE in 1995. Together they designed and built a home in Rio Verde, where they enjoyed golfing, spending time with friends, volunteering, visits from family, and traveling through the Americas, South Pacific and Europe.

Rod was well-known for his creativity, passion and skill for investing, and spent his entire career as an investor. He had experience with everything from equities and bonds to options, commodities, currency and real estate.

Rod never lost his sense of fun, adventure and new possibilities. Ever-enthusiastic about aviation and airplanes, Rod had been a recreational pilot and always enjoyed looking at and identifying aircraft. He habitually made up jokes on the fly, and he was extraordinarily generous, compassionate, considerate and kind.

He is survived by wife, Nancy (Taylor) Snyder Bunney; son Brett Bunney of Redondo Beach, CA; son Brian Bunney (Lori) of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Barbara Bunney Krueger (Kurt) of Ann Arbor, MI; stepdaughter Judy Snyder of Scottsdale, AZ; grandsons Zachary Bunney (Amanda) and Nicholas Bunney of Colorado Springs, CO; grandsons Christopher Krueger and Daniel Krueger of Ann Arbor, MI; and twin great-grandchildren, Reagan and Dixon Bunney of Colorado Springs, CO; and brother Gary Bunney of Boulder City, NV. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Wilma (Durrie) Bunney, his sister Janet Kragh, his first wife Joan (Bryson) Bunney, his granddaughter Lexi Bunney, and his stepson Scott Snyder.

Services will be at the Community Church of the Verdes at 25603 N. Danny Lane, Rio Verde, Arizona on Monday, October 26th at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in Founders Hall. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 30th at Fairview Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The most famous comment about Ickabod in the Dirty Dozen was "You could believe only half what he said, but you could never figure out which half". Thanks for being one of us.

We are so sorry for your loss. We still have fond memories of the River Cruise up the Danube and teasing about Nebraska - Va. Tech football.
