Roger Benson Obituary

Roger Benson passed away on October 8, 2014. He was born on October 1,1927 in Hordville, Nebraska. His parents were Henry Morris Benson and Jennie Amelia Person (Benson). Roger lived in Hordville, Nebraska until 1946 when he was inducted into the United States Army. After discharge from the Army in 1949, he attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska. It was there that he met Mary Jane Olson of Chappell. On June 1,1952, they were married in Chappell. After living in Wahoo and Chappell,they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in May of 1955.

Roger was employed by the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1956 serving there until 1986. Roger and Mary Jane had three sons - Steve, Brad and Jeff.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters. Nothing was more important to him than his family.

He is survived by Mary Jane, and his sons Steve (Terri) of Colorado Springs, Brad (Sharon) of Moreno Valley, CA, Jeff(Jane) of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by four grandchildren - Bryan of Riverside, CA, Matthew (Jeret) of Fort Collins, CO Holly (Luke) of Aurora, CO, Katy of Lakewood, CO, and by his great-grandson Rivers.

After retirement in 1986, Roger kept busy bowling, bike riding and singing in a number of Choirs, including the Colorado Springs Choral and Soli. Deo Gloria. He also sang many solos in church services and weddings.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 28, at 3:30 at Memorial Gardens.
