Roger B. Cavender passed away peacefully on July 5, 2021. Born July 5, 1947 in Abilene Kansas to Dale and Jeanne Cavender. The Cavender's moved to Colorado Springs in the early 1950's and settled on the Westside. Roger attended Cheyenne Mountain Schools and graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1965. After graduation, Roger went to Western State College in Gunnison, CO to pursue a business admin, history and teaching degree. He received his MBA from Western State College and an ABA from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Roger began a long career in commercial and residential mortgage banking in Craig, CO soon after graduation. Roger and his family moved back to Colorado Springs in 1976 where he continued his career in banking. Roger was an entrepreneur who thrived in reading the trends and creating business opportunities where he could support people in reaching their dreams. During his career in Colorado Springs, Roger was a proponent and agent of change in the community he loved. Some of the boards he sat on where he felt he could affect positive change were:

– Legislative Affairs Committee, CMLA

– Commissioner, El Paso County Housing Authority

– Board of Directors,CMLA

– Board of Directors, CSHBA

– Board of Directors, Domestic Violence Prevention Association

Roger was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed spending time at the family cabin chasing trout. Roger was a life-long learner, always reading; history was one of his favorite subjects and was a fan of Patrick O'Brian. He was a man of God and had strong faith in all he did. Roger is survived by his daughter, Amy L. Cavender, his son Paul J. Cavender (Melissa) granddaughters, Madison and Katie Cavender, of Colorado Springs and sisters Claudia (Howard) Spear and Susan (Charlie) Wrobbel. Wife Lori Shear Cavender and her sons, Christian and David.

A private service and interment will be held at a later date.

My sympathy to the family. I just learned of Roger's passing and remember him well.
He was my first boss when I went back to work in Colorado Springs after being a stay at home mom for 12 years. He took a chance on me at First Colorado Mortgage. I followed him over to what he helped grow into Classic Mortgage and remained in the business many more years.
Roger was always kind to everyone and I know he loved his family very much.
