Roger McKee Obituary

Roger William McKee, age 55, went to heaven in the arms of angels on June 24, 2005.  He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Edward and Viola McKee on August 8, 1949.  He was raised in a loving home with his brother, Steve McKee, and sister, Patti Jo Ottinger.  He attended St. Henry's Grade School and Bishop Luers High School. Roger entered the Air Force and trained at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, before being stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.  Roger and his then wife, Mary Ann (Neuhaus) started a family there, giving birth to two daughters: Kimberly Bingman and Karena Vannaman.  After completing his service in the Air Force as a survival instructor, they moved to Wisconsin.  Roger completed a degree in Professional Photography and started a career in the mapping industry.  They were blessed with two sons: Kenny and Karl McKee.  His mapping career then took him to Davenport, Iowa where they were blessed with one more child, Kristopher McKee.  Roger then brought his family to Colorado Springs in 1983 when he accepted employment with Analytical Surveys (Sanborn); he worked there for 20 years as a Vice President and was in charge of Government Sales. Roger met his best friend whom he called his angel, Laura Carr, in 2000.  He has five grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart: Matthew and Hailey Bingman and Amber, Zachery and Cole Roger Vannaman.  He cherished his son-in-laws, Brad Bingman and Tad Vannaman. Roger loved the Lord.  He knew his purpose and shared his strong faith with all of his family and friends.  Roger was devoted to his family.  He had a passion for learning and adventure.  He loved photography, hiking, camping and bird watching.  He was very interested in local history and was a member of The Historic Preservation Alliance of Colorado Springs and an avid researcher of Lewis and Clark.  He regularly volunteered at the Marian Soup Kitchen and the Air Force Academy Community Chapel. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends as he starts a new adventure, his great journey, with the Lord. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2005 at Swan-Law Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 28th at the United States Air Force Academy Community Chapel.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. In light of heightened security on the Air Force Academy, all guests without military identification need to enter through the South Gate and must call or email Lauren Gaise at (719) 491-5174 or [ mailto:[email protected] ][email protected] to be placed on the guest list. The McKee Family requests memorial contributions be made in Roger's name to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak, CSC 80903; the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plains, IL 60018; or The Historic Preservation Alliance of Colorado Springs, PO Box 345, Colorado Springs, CO.  Family and friends may visit [ http://www.mem.com/ ]www.mem.com to view a lifetime tribute to Roger and leave their own personal memory and tribute.

Dear Karena, Kim, Karl, Kenny & Kris,

Just a note to tell you how sorry I am to hear about your Dad. He was such a neat guy but that you know. I remember his peanut brittle every Christmas--yummy, yummy. His sense of humor was great too. I am sorry I could not make the funeral but I had a funeral yesterday and couldn't get off work again. You are in my prayers and thoughts. Lean on each other and be there for each other and share your memories--laugh and cry and remember all the good times--that will help get you through.

My love to all of you and to all the little people too

Mrs. B.

Now there is a space in our lives left unfilled

A ray missing from each sunset on our small planet

I can see that even from here near the equator

Our memories of you-warm, caring, kind at heart-will help fill the void

Shine down on us, Roger, we need you still.

Thanks for being the kind cousin...
