Roland W. Emmerich, aged 91, was called to Heaven by our Father and Lord on March 7, 2006 following complications from a stroke. Originally from New Memphis, IL, Roland and his wife Ella, spent most of their lives in and around Mascoutah, IL. He moved to Colorado Springs in March of 2002 to be near his daughter and her family. He was the son of George L. Emmerich and Louise C. Johnson both from Looking Glass Township, IL. He married the love of his life, Ella M. Graul on November 24, 1938 (Thanksgiving Day) in Mascoutah, IL. A veteran of WW II, he earned the rank of corporal in the US Army, Roland also earned two Bronze Stars after serving in both the European and Asiatic-Pacific theaters as a member of the 37th Chemical Depot Company, where he served as a toxic gas handler and electrician. Roland was renown for his soft, gentle demeanor and always had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older sisters: Kate and Esther; and an older brother, Wilmer; and his first daughter, Cindy. Roland is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 67 years, Ella M. Emmerich; a daughter, Renee Cavalli; wife of Tom Cavalli, his granddaughter, Angela Fertig, wife of SrA Brandon Fertig, USAF; an older sister, Edna, and younger sister, Violet.
