I played basketball at Santa Ana College with Ron in 1957-58. He was a great guy and good player. I next ran into him in Colorado Springs when he first arrived there. I was managing First American Title at the time . It was great to relives some of our Santa Ana College days. He will be missed.

Truly one of the greatest men I have ever met. Made the best lasagna ever, I've still never found anything close.
Also, as a football official he was a rock star. One time the PA at Manitou went out so the national anthem singer could not be heard. The singer gave up, but not Ron. He led the entire bleachers in The Pledge of Allegiance.
Another time we stopped at a restaurant on the way to a game at Buena Vista. There was nobody there to greet us, and a couple of groups already waiting to be seated. Ron found where they kept the menus, sat the other 2 groups first, and then he picked out a table for us. When the hostess finally came back out of hiding, she could not figure out what happened!
But my favorite was a game at Sierra. It was #1 Sierra vs. #2 Eaglecrest. There was an unsportsmanlike penalty at the end of the first half in a close, very competitive game.
Here is the halftime officials conference pretty much word-for-word. Pat Kane was the white hat, one of the best.
Ron: Hey Pat, I have a question about the flag you threw at the end of the half.
Pat: OK, shoot.
Ron: Now, I know you had the QB for unsportsmanlike because he threw the ball really hard straight up in the air after the play.
Pat: Right.
Ron: So, I also noticed you threw your flag right away, immediately after the QB threw the ball up in the air. My question is....(very serious face)...what if the ball never comes down??? Then what do you call?
Pat: (slackjaw).
I never laughed so hard in my life.
What a great guy. He will be missed!
