Ronald Noel Obituary

Ron Noel passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs on April 27, 2016, at the age of 80, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease, with his wife and son at his bedside. He was born in Corning, Kansas and was raised in Grand Island, Nebraska, by Mel and Gwen Noel.

Ron graduated from Grand Island High School in 1953 where he was involved in football, baseball, basketball and track. A track record set by Ron and his teammates for a relay, was only recently broken. He attended the University of Nebraska for his undergraduate degree and dental school, graduating with a D.D.S. in 1961. After joining the Army and being stationed at Fort Carson, Ron made his home in Colorado Springs where he raised his family and practiced dentistry for 26 years.

Following retirement from his dental practice, Ron obtained a Master's Degree in Counseling and became a part-time Licensed Professional Counselor. He also enjoyed working as a substitute teacher at The School for the Blind and at Rick's Garden Center during the summer.

Ron was a lover of nature, especially birds, and enjoyed writing poetry. He often took refuge at the Hugo State Wildlife Area in eastern Colorado where he connected with his love of the prairie and was inspired in his writing. He had numerous poems published. Just prior to the onset of Alzheimer's, Ron had taken up drawing, painting and fiddling. He obtained pleasure drawing with colored pencils until late in his disease.

Ron will be missed by Cyndy, his wife of 28 years and care partner; children Curt, Tom, Sara and step-daughter Aleah; grandchildren Beth, Dan, Jake, Caleb and Quincy; and two great-grandchildren. Ron's passing is a loss for his brothers, Max and Rick, their families, and those who knew and loved him during his lifetime and his journey with Alzheimer's. Ron was predeceased by his parents and his son, Peter.

Ron's Memorial Gathering will be on Monday, May 23rd, 4:30 to 7:30 PM, at Hillside Gardens, 1006 S. Institute St., Colorado Springs. It will be a casual event with a special remembrance to honor Ron at 5:30 PM. There will be time to visit both before and after the remembrance ceremony. Tapas will be served. You're welcome to stop by for a little while or stay for the entire evening.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family encourages donations to the Namaste Alzheimer's Center, 2 Penrose Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80906. Please note "In Memory of Ron Noel" on the memo line.
