RONALD POPE
November 26, 1937 November 15,2018
Ronald Pope went to meet his Lord on November 15th, 2018. He was born November 26th, 1937, in Sterling, Colorado, to Margaret Pope and Leonard Pope. He had been a resident of Colorado Springs for the last 56 years. Ron grew up in Haxtun, Colorado, enjoying the wonderful freedom small town life can offer. He participated in many music activities and was an avid Junior League baseball player and all-around baseball enthusiast. Upon graduation from Haxtun High School, he attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he received a BA in English and Speech, and an MA in counseling. While in college Ron met Kay Stellmaker and they were married in 1961.
Ron taught two years in New Raymer school district before he and Kay headed to Colorado Springs where he worked as a classroom teacher and high school counselor for 31 years in Widefield School District 3. Ron loved working with young people and being the "Voice of Widefield" at sporting events. Loved by all, the family joked he couldn't get in and out of any store in town without stopping to talk with at least three former students. Ron retired from education in 1993. After retiring, Ron and Kay loved to spend time antiquing, collecting books, and going to many musical venues throughout the country.
Ron loved people and enjoyed telling jokes and stories of his escapades growing up in a small town. Ron was most proud of his two children and two grandchildren. He never missed a game, a concert, or a social event they were involved with. Ron's love of music and sports, particularly baseball, stayed with him throughout his life.
Ron is survived by his wife, Kay, his daughter Jill Lykins and her husband Dan Lykins, son Todd Pope, and two grandchildren, Grant and Noah Lykins. A memorial service will be held at Pikes Peak Christian Church, 4955 Bradley Road, Security Colorado, at 11am, Saturday, February 23rd.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ron's name to Faith Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or Suncrest Hospice.

Mr. Pope was one of my favorite teachers at Watson Jr. High, a colleague of my dad's, and a wonderful person all around. I am grateful to have spoken with him at my dad's memorial service 12 years ago. Please know how fondly he is rememberied and how many lives he influenced over his many years teaching. My heart goes out to his family, and I wish I could be in Colorado to pay my respects.

My wonderful colleague at WHS, Ron had an encyclopedic recall of baseball trivia...we both collected baseball cards. Ron was as sincere and unpretentious as his Haxtun upbringing. I'll never think of "Dodger Blue" without Ron. Spring training starts in 7 days....we'll be missing you so much.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of your loved one, Ronald. He will be missed. It is comforting to know that he is sleeping peacefully in death as recorded at 1Thessalonians 4:13. He is awaiting the time when verse 14 of that same chapter will be fulfilled. This time will be made a reality by means of God's Kingdom in which we pray for in the Lord's Prayer. Once more I am sorry for your loss.
