Ronald "Ron" J Shaw, 88, formerly of Orem, Utah, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in Payson. He was born December 27, 1935, in Venice, Utah, to DeVere Shaw and Beatrice Sena (Heath) Shaw. He married Elsa "El" G. Bode on June 3, 1956, in Southampton, New York. They were sealed for time and all eternity at the Sacramento LDS Temple on March 11, 1966. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2008.
Ron earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California in 1968 while serving full time in the Air Force. He then went on to earn a Masters degree in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington in 1975. He completed another Masters at BYU, while simultaneously earning his teaching certificates.
Ron served two years in the Air Force National Guard in Bluffdale, Utah. He then served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years over the course of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. His assignments included tours of New York, California, Arizona, Japan, Colorado, Washington & Canada. After a full career serving our country in the military, he went on to serve his state by teaching junior high school in Springville, Utah, for 17 years. In 1995, he received the Teacher of the Year Award for Law Related Subjects from the State of Utah after the Mock Trial Team he coached took State. He finished his teaching career after teaching teachers how to teach at B.Y.U. for three years. He then volunteered for another 20 years for the City of Orem as a hearing officer, presiding over 500 cases during his long tenure.
Ron was a fabulous father, doting grandfather, beloved great-grandfather, much loved great-great-grandfather, a service-oriented individual, and a wonderful role-model. He was loved by everyone who met him. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as a home teacher and a high priest.
Ron is survived by his three children: Teri (Bill) Popp of Wayzata, Minnesota; Sally (Bill) Selesky of Bailey, Colorado; and Ronni Sorensen of Orem; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister-in-law Gerrie Shaw; and many beloved nephews and nieces. He lived the final 15 years of his life with his daughter Ronni, and his grandson Kyle, who looked upon Ron as a father. He was preceded in death by his wife El; two brothers Clifford D and Wesley F Shaw; and sister-in-law Norma Shaw. Burial was held at the Utah Veterans Cemetery located in Bluffdale, Utah. A separate ceremony with full military rights will be held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
