Ronald SUNNENBERG Obituary

Ronald Thomas SUNNENBERG, "Ron", "Gramps" passed into eternal life surrounded by family on March 29, 2017. Ron was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 23, 1935. He loved his life, his family, friends, adopted state of Colorado, travel, sports, the Navy and dogs! Always a storyteller, the family will miss stories that began, "back in Adak…" and countless other humorous memories. His devilish sense of humor lives on in his family.

The last week of his life was filled with many wonderful events that sent him on his journey in peace. He had the opportunity to make a final Reconciliation, receive Anointing of the Sick, Last Rights and Communion even up to his last day. He connected with old friends and was constantly surrounded by the family he loved so much. While in Hospice, he even had his very first massage! Over the last week, he was blessed to get visits from three therapy dogs, two guitar players and an a cappella quartet. He enjoyed a hot fudge malt, a wee dram of Ardbeg, a little black licorice and many laughs and jokes.

Gramps leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Katheleen (Art) Nutter, and his son Michael. Gramps had a loving and special relationship with each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Ian Johnson; Sebastian (V) Nutter, Harlow and Arden; Marysa (Ryan) Likness, Ainsley and Braelyn; CPT Calista (CPT Gary) Turner and Kellan; Sheridan (Taylor) and Eliana Nutter; Anastasia Nutter; Solange Nutter; Sophia Nutter; Alexandra Sunnenberg and Jessica Sunnenberg. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin B. Sunnenberg and Bertha A. (Ruwan) Sunnenberg, and his brother and sister-in-law, Alvin (Jeanette) Sunnenberg.

Visitation, Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church 4925 North Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs at 11:00 AM. Burial will be Monday, April 10 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver at 11:15 AM. May he rest forever in the loving arms of our Lord.
