Rosa Chaney Obituary

Rosa Maria Chaney died at her home in Colorado Springs on Saturday, April 30th after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her family when she slipped into heaven.

She was born in Fuersteneich, Selesia (Prussia) on August 10, 1931 to Oswald and Luzia Hahn. After immigrating to West Germany with her mother during World War II, she lived first in Simbach, then Neu Ulm, Germany where she later met and married her husband of 57 years, Roy Chaney, Jr.

Over the next 20 years, she supported her husband in his military career with duty stations in Germany and America. When he retired from the U.S. Army in 1972, they settled in Colorado Springs and raised their family of five children. She then worked for many years at Harrison School District 2 as a paraprofessional for special needs children, a library assistant, and food service worker. She also worked as a Catholic Religious Education Teacher for 10 years on Fort Carson.

She is survived by her husband, Roy; and her children: Dani (Michael) Greer, Tanya (Robert) Croyl, Olav (Wendy) Chaney, Roy (Hyon) Chaney III, and Desiree (Robert) Brianne. She also leaves behind 19 beloved grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren as well as friends and relatives in America and Germany.

Rosa was the epitome of the strong Viking woman, who took on any challenge with courage and strength until her last days. She had many talents and interests, but especially enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening, with backyard birds and squirrels giving her special joy every day. Above all, she loved her family and home. She will be remembered in countless ways, including her undying sense of humor.

A visitation will be held from 10:30-10:50 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Avenue, on Friday, May 6, 2016.

A committal service will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 2:30 P.M. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B.

Flowers or contributions in her memory may be brought to the services. The family is donating these contributions to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation.
