Rose Bendish Obituary

Rose Marie Bendish, 70, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully under home hospice care in the morning hours of January 4, 2016 with family by her side. Rose was born on May 21, 1945 to the late Edwin and Lena (Bachmeier) Kilian in New York, New York.

After attending an all-girls school, Rose married Carl G. Smartt, Sr. in 1964 in New York before his Army career moved them to Germany. They later moved to Fort Carson, Colorado and divorced in 1981. She later married Francis Bendish in Las Vegas on February 24, 1992 and the two have been married ever since.

Aside from spending time with friends and family (she adored her grandkids!), Rose enjoyed her bowling leagues, bingo, her pets, knitting and crafting as well as crossword puzzles. Although primarily a homemaker, Rose worked briefly as a press operator for Walter Drake and at Bowl-Mor Lanes.

Rose is survived by her loving husband, Francis; sons: Gary Smartt, Jr., Paul Smartt and Daniel Smartt; daughter, Jennifer (Chad) Vink; grandchildren: Josh Smartt (Ashley Schwald), Christa Brown, Marcella Vink and Myka Bushea; great grandchildren: Kaiden, J'Leigh and Cylas Vink and Zandon Montoya-Richard; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann (Roger) Lee, Cecilia (Denny) Gibson and Theresa Baker and their families. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Carl; in-laws: Frank J. and Hattie A. Bendish; and her brother-in-law, Joseph J. Bendish.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 North Logan Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will follow back at the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
