Rose Ormanoski Obituary

April 18, 1931 - November 4, 2008
Rose Marie Ormanoski (LaSalle) of Colorado Springs, passed away November 4, 2008 after a very courageous and valiant 15-year battle with cancer. Rose (Roey) was born April 18, 1931 in Lousiville, Colorado, to Mary (Slota) and Frank LaSalle. She attended Saint Louis Catholic School and graduated from Louisville High School in 1948. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Rose's first teaching job was in Torrington, Wyoming. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1956 and taught business at Colorado Springs High School (now Palmer High) before opening Wasson High School in 1959. Rose then moved to Colorado Spring's Harrison School District in 1965 and helped open Sierra High School in August 1984. Being named Harrison District's "Teacher of the Year" in 1988 was one of her proudest honors. She retired in 1996 after teaching for a record 42 years! Many students, teachers and staff were touched by Rose's kindness, dedication and strong will. Rose's greatest joys were spending time with her family and friends, cheering high school sports teams, and traveling. Rose traveled extensively to Canada, Alaska, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Her perseverance and strength will live on in all those who knew her. She is survived by daughter Beth Moses (Kirk) of Windsor, son John of Colorado Springs, grandchildren Jacob and Allison Moses, sister Dorothy Ferguson (David "Ferg") of Louisville, and former husband John of Hale, as well numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary LaSalle and sister Rita Lou Beard. A Rosary will be held at 10:30am on Friday, November 7, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at Saint Louis Catholic Church, 902 Grant Avenue, Louisville, Colorado. Interment will be held immediately following at Louisville Cemetery. The Tri-City Elks in Louisville will host a Reception. Beth and John wish to thank the many family and friends who provided support during Rose's long fight. Special thanks to the staffs at Balfour Retirement Community, Hospice of Boulder County, and University of Colorado Cancer Center for all the loving care. Ms Rose Ormanoski was an excellent teacher. I took typing and business office practice, a two year class, from her while in school from 1970-73 at Harrison. I was thinking of her this morning when I thought of who I am very thankful for who helped me be the person I am today. I was a secretary for 19 years and now a realtor and I can attribute it to her tireless efforts in making sure we knew how to do our assigned tasks. She was a great teacher. I am sad I cannot visit her. Instead, I want her family to know how much appreciated she is to this day. Thank you for sharing her with us.

She was "THE BEST" - she taught us with humor sometimes and through her examples. My friend, Maria "Vigil" and I would mess around at times and she ignored it and continued to teach. I attribute many of my business skills to her; I use many of them today with my job at LM. Blessings to your family - what a legacy she has left.

Mrs. "O" was such an inspiration to me during my high school years at Harrison High School in 1974-75. Because of her I made a career in the business side of education. I will always be grateful to Mrs. "O" and have many fond memories of being one of her students. My prayers are with you, God Bless.

Miss La Salle was my Shorthand and Typing teacher in 1957-58 at Colorado Springs High School and I took the business education she taught me into my career for many years to come. She was also a great friend to us girls and taught us that women could succeed in business at a time when women were entering the business world. We celebrated the 50th class reunion this year and she was not able to attend as she had so many times in the past. We spoke of her often through the evening. It is not many people, who have been teachers, that are remembered for so many years and by so many, as Miss La Salle. My sincere graditude to her and my sincere sympathy to her family at this time of their loss.

Mrs. Ormanoski was my typing teacher at Harrison High School in the 1960s. I will always remember her as being kind and thoughtful to all of her students. It made me want to be a teacher and I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972 with a teaching degree. She was a very special teacher. My heartfelt sympathy goes to her family. You were lucky to have her. Lorraine Gerardo Reed

Mrs. Ormanoski was my business teacher at Harrison High School in the 1960s. She was a very pleasant and helpful teacher. I entered a career in medical transcription, and without her help it would have been much more difficult. I am so fortunate to have known her. My condolences to the family.
