Roy Nordgulen Obituary

There is one more angel in Heaven, one more star in the sky. Roy Elmer Nordgulen, born November 27, 1935, left for his next adventure on August 21, 2015. Roy was born in Havre, MT to Roy Wolford Nordgulen and Joyce Eleanor Carpenter Nordgulen.

He managed to do more with the next 79 years than most of us could even dream of. He was a submariner in the Navy during the Korean War and a licensed cosmetologist (then Senator John F. Kennedy once asked him to travel with them and do Jackie's hair. He didn't, but appreciated the offer). Roy was a police officer in Colorado Springs, CO for 26 years and retired as a Lieutenant. He was a college professor and taught Police Science for 24 years and fed his golf addiction by working at the starter shack at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs.

As if that were not enough, he went on to get his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Colorado and became a licensed psychotherapist. He was proud of the counseling work he did with children and was really good at it. Roy was an avid golfer and people learned quickly not to bet money against him in poker or billiards. After moving to Ingram, TX, he discovered The Point Theatre and loved being in and attending productions there.

His proudest achievement, though, was his family. He married Vicki Lynne Brooks on March 3, 1997 in Maui, HI. They loved to travel together and were often in an RV, a plane or a cruise ship.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki; daughters, Suzan Nordgulen Nyquist (Karl), Sandee Nordgulen Wurtz (Tim), and Sarah Tacey Derousseau (Marcelo); sister, Jana Murray (Mike); 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He left this world as he lived in it- surrounded by the family he loved.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 25, at 4 PM in the sanctuary of Zion Lutheran Church, 624 Barnett, Kerrville, TX

78028. A private interment will follow.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made in his memory to The Point Theatre,

My condolences to the Norgulen and to the El Paso Community college/PPCC families on the passing of Lt. Norgulen. I had known Roy professionally when I was a security officer and he was working with Crime Stoppers. may he rest in peace and he's now with family and friends that had passed before him
