Roy "Pete" Oldfield

Obituary as written by Roy "Pete":
As my life comes full circle, I want to acknowledge those things that I am most proud of and brought me great joy.
I am glad to have been born into a large family (two sisters and two brothers) while being raised in a very small town. Both circumstances helped shape my character.
I proudly served in the United States Navy, and in the fifty-four years since my discharge, I still feel a special bond whenever I see a man or woman in a Navy uniform.
I had the great honor of being married to two beautiful, loving, and generous women. Although Loretta Oldfield and Paula Campbell died much too soon, being paired with both of them helped make me a better man.
Parenting is the single most demanding, scary, and satisfying role that one can undertake. It is also the most rewarding. My son, Peter, daughter-in-law, Nikki, and stepdaughter, Laura Kobilan have been a constant source of pride, delight, and authenticity. I constantly delight in who they are and what they have become. I only hope that they can forgive me for any deficiency in my parental efforts.
I am proud of my thirty years as a public educator and believe that I touched a few lives and made a small difference.
Finally, I am most grateful for the hundreds of good and decent people I have met along my journey of life.
A Graveside Service for family and friends will take place early summer.

Mr. Oldfield was my guidance counselor at East Junior High School. I have great memories of the many conversations I had with him. Fair winds and following seas to a Sailor who charted the course for thousands of young people. He will be missed.

Mr. Oldfield was my counselor at East Junior High. He took me under his wing and was a mentor and friend. We reconnected several times when I was an adult, and I am grateful to have thanked him for his kindness. When I think back on my life, he is a shining star and an inspiration. Best of all, he ALWAYS told it like it was. Sometimes with cuss words.

I was a student at East Jr in the 80's. I remember Mr. Oldfield as a very genuine person with a quick wit and big smile. He had a shoulder to cry on and kept all the teenage hormone ridden fools in check. I felt safer with him around. Condolences to his family.

A former student remembers a teacher who taught with compassion and recognized my efforts. I still have my achievement award from 1973. I was proud to be a social studies teacher just like Mr. Oldfield. A good man is gone. Peace.
