Remembering Roy Sherwood: I was at Hurlburt Field, Florida Thursday night, August 1st, 1968, Louis Platt, friends of Tom and George, came to my barracks inviting me to go to Jacksonville, Orange Park, Florida to help the Navigators, which at this point I didn´t know who they were, to sit up a minister´s home, Roy Sherwood. Saturday morning, August 3rd, we with others went to Cecil Field, the largest military base in the Jacksonville area at that time to minister on the base. I had never done this before. We went through the barracks sharing Christ to the sailors. Of course, I just watched and observed. Nine young Navy sailors accepted Christ as their personal savior that day. That Saturday night we all went to the Sherwood home played games, had a grand picnic, singing and rejoicing and a message called `Two hour Christian.´ I came back wanting to learn to present `the bridge´ illustration and share the gospel on Hurlburt. Later I realized that was one purpose of the 300 miles trip.

My dad, Dean Meeker, and I spent a summer ('84) helping Roy complete his home in the plains east of Colo. Springs. He was a mentor to me then as he had been to my parents decades before when they were young Navigators in southern California.

I remember Roy from my time at his home in La Mesa (1959 -60) while I was in the Navy. Weekends for Bible study, volleyball, great food and serving Saturday night at Youth for Christ. Good times.
