Roy Spellman Obituary

In Loving Memory of Roy J. Spellman Sr. (Shorty Spellman) April 27, 1925 - January 19, 2008. While Roy was born in Canfield, Ohio, he was a long-term resident of Colorado Springs brought to the area by military duty. He was outgoing and active and generously shared his time and many skills and talents. Roy was a retired carpenter affiliated with Local 515 for 55 years, a World War II veteran, a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at the Harrison School District # 2 Science Center. He enjoyed traveling and was passionate about baseball and coached American Legion high school baseball. Most of all, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Margaret Spellman, his sons, Roy Spellman Jr. (and his wife, Pauline) and Donald Spellman (and his wife Becky), his daughter, Carol Dulaney, and his three grandchildren, Lisa Keller, Katie Spellman and Thomas Spellman as well as other family members. He will continue to be treasured and remain in the hearts and minds of his family and friends. At Roy's request, there will be no formal services.

I will always remember "Big Roy" as a friend of my Dad's, but also someone who was good to me. From the time we lived on Erie Road, the Spellman Family were there when we were growing up. When I had polio as a young kid, they were there as friends to my parents and we kids always played together. Through High School and College, I would have occassions to vist with Roy Jr and Donald--usually when Donald would help me tune-up my Ford. I will never forget the friendship of this wonderful family, and offer my deepest sympathy to them for this loss. Certainly though, Roy Sr will be remembered by many for the many good things he did to help others.

I am so sorry to hear the sad news of Roy. He is remembered so fondly by all the members of this family. Tonight we are recalling many special times with him and your family. I hope knowing we share your grief will in some way make it easier for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers and the memory of Roy will always be a part of us.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you. We rented from Roy on Date street in the early 1970's. Nice man and such a hard worker! He will be missed.
