We celebrate a life well lived; the life of Ruby Joan Reed who passed on Feb. 8 at the age of 94; the daughter of William and Inez Teller. She was the youngest of 4 siblings: Raymond; Bonnie; Helen and Vesta. She is survived by two daughters: Jill Kelley and Dianna Lynn Irons. Grandchildren Shad Reed and Shannon Leighton. Great Grandchildren: Indie Jean Reed; and Isabella and Kaylee Leighton.
Ruby was a remarkable business woman, full of strength, independence; and unwavering determination. Retail was always her life; beginning in Manitou Springs making macrame wall hangings. She then moved to Old Colorado City, which she loved, and opened a little boutique named "Rags 'n Riches". She would go on to spend 25 years on the west side, where she opened several new businesses with her daughter Jill: "InKahoots"; "Crackers and Crust," and the beautiful, old Victorian home on Colorado Avenue named "The Painted Lady". The exterior being painted in beautiful shades of pink and lavender. It was a little tea room with specialty shops on the second floor.
Mom was an accomplished seamstress, always in her beloved sewing room creating and selling her very funky clothes.
One of her dreams was to own a little red Mercedes convertible. She was known to let the grandkids take it to get ice cream.
Mom was a kind, beautiful "inside and out", generous lady, who was loved by everyone who knew her. We will all miss her rum cakes and BBQ ribs. We know she is safe in the arms of the Lord. Rest in heaven, mom. We miss and love you.
