Rudolph Melena Obituary

May 10, 1928 - December 5, 2007. Rudolph (Rudy) Melena, died Dec. 5, 2007 at his home. He was born May 10, 1928, to Sam and Rosario Melena. Rudy and Ruth, his wife, were married for 57 years. He is survived by brother, Ishmael Melena; son and daughter-in-law, Rudy Michael and Lori Anne Melena; his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann Melena-Nieto and Ramon Nieto; granddaughter, Necole Janine Wing: and granddaughter and her husband, Liana Maria Melena and Jason James Deitchler. Rudy was employee and proprietor of the Rio Grande Grocery and Market for 53 years. He was a Tech-Sergeant in the Air Force Reserves for 32 years. He was a member of the Colorado Spring Housing Authority for 10 years. He was one of the first members of the Hope-Coronado Credit Union and served on the board of directors. Rudy attended the Chadbourn Mission since childhood and, in recent years, served on the board of directors. He met regularly with "the Kids," 10 alumni of Colorado Springs High School, graduating class of 1946. As an avid reader, he was always knowledgeable about current events and curious about life. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who touched the lives of many adults and children. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday Dec. 11, 2007 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. A private family inurnment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
