Ruth Kruger Obituary
Ruth Shiver Kruger passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 10, 2011 with family by her side. Ruth was born in Brundidge, Alabama to Arch L. and Bedie Shiver. She and 3 brothers and a sister were raised and spent their childhood in Alabama and Florida where their father was a minister. After Ruth graduated high school at 18, she married her first love Lamar May and lived happily until Lamar entered the Army during World War II. He was involved with the landing at Narmandy and died on November 20, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. Ruth returned to Mongomery, Alabama to be with her family and then moved west and settled in Riverside, California where she later met and married Jerald Lambert. Together they adopted and raised 2 children, Theresa Lambert and John K. Lambert. Ruth ran her business baking and decorating wedding cakes while teaching food art and cake decorating for the Riverside Parks and Recreation. She was active in Order of Eastern Star. After Jerry's death in 1964 Ruth continued to raise her children and operate her business until 1972 when she sold the business. She met and, on May 24, 1973 married her present husband of 38 years John (Jack) Kruger. When Jack retired in 1982 they moved to Spokane, WA and for 4 years she and Jack spent most of the time with their friends touring the U.S. and Canada in the motorhome. They moved to Wetumpka, AL in 1986 to care for her ill mother until she passed away. Ruth and Jack then lived in Prescott Valley, AZ and finally moved to Colorado Springs. She always found time to enjoy herself, playing cards, raising prize winning flowers, and loved making family dinners, among many other hobbies. Ruth was a devoted life-long Christian who spent hours reading and studying her Bible and religious books and praying. Because of her love of God and Jesus she tried to live according to His teaching and prayed that others would do the same. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Leon C. Shiver, Gene L. Shiver, and sister Evelyn Tankersly. She is survived by her brother Archie L. (Elaine) Shiver, Wetumpka, AL, her husband, John W. Kruger, daughter Kathleen M. (John) Bryant, Colorado Springs, daughter Theresa Lambert, Mesa, AZ, son John W. (Linda) Kruger, Jr., Glendale, AZ and son John K. (Deborah) Lambert, Pleasenton, CA, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth will always be known for her beautiful smile and as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
