Ruth Pavalko Obituary

Ruth Pavalko, age 88, passed away on Friday evening, July 29, 2011 at Mimi's Care Home and Hospice, Las Vegas, Nevada. Her son's wife, Kelly Pavalko, had been visiting her earlier that day. Ruth was born on August 25, 1922, the daughter of Leonard C. and Harriett Bajork, Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Alverno High School and subsequently attended Business School in Chicago. She entered the military as a Navy WAVE on April 19, 1943. At the age of 23 she met her love, U.S. Marine Peter Pavalko, Youngstown, Ohio, whom she married on April 6, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1988. Ruth is survived by her three children: Pat (husband Peter, deceased) Smith of Tucson, Arizona, Michael (wife Linda) Powell of Denver, Colorado and Tom (wife Kelly) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a brother, Len (wife Liz) of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren: John, Byron, Candace, Lindsey, Meagan and Kim; and two great grandchildren: Sarah and Paisley. Ruth loved music and caring for her three champion poodles. She was a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, Colorado Springs and was very active in several ministries, the Plus-One Seniors group, a regular volunteer for funeral receptions, various bible studies and served on the parish council. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. all at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1520 East Yampa Street, immediately followed by a reception. Interment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
