Every Christmas I think of you Ryan. I think of all the joy you brought me as a Reds fan, I remember the time you called my girlfriend from my phone to thank her for being a fan (she had a HUGE crush on you!). And I am thankful I knew you, albeit as a fan in the stands. Rest easy, and peace unto your family.

I enjoyed watching Ryan Freel's all out play so much that when I purchased a Red's jersey I chose his name for the back. I could've done like so many others at that time and had Griffey on the back but I wanted Freel. He demonstrated how to not only play the game of baseball but how to live life. Give 110% or go home. I coach little league baseball and have passed that on to them. Thanks for the lesson Ryan.

I am adding this message long after Ryan's passing in order to express my condolences to his family and in the hope what I write will be forward ed to them. My small collection of Ryan memorabilia consists of a nice salection of cards from Ryan's early career AND the Reds wind shirt Ryan wore when he played in Cincinnati. If Ryan's family would like to have these items free I would be glad to ship them to Florida directly to the family or in care of the funeral home. [email protected]

Norma, Clark and Family,

I will miss those kind, haunting blue eyes that always held a mischievous little twinkle. Ryan loved baseball with an over the top compassion that was second only to his lovely three daughters. His zest for life and love for his family, especially, his mother, was profound and contagious to be associated with. Ryan always made everyone feel comfortable and accepted to be around. Ryan was amusing and more often than not made me laugh. He was never too busy to help others, even visiting my father in the hospital signing a bat for him and many autographs for the doctors and nurses who attended him. During our "Real Men Read" project, Ryan came to our school and read to our students instilling in them not only the importance of reading, but also of being disciplined and always doing their absolute best. Even though the immense hurt Ryan's early departure has left us all with, he has also left us with many memories of amazing plays, amusing anecdotes and what an absolutely loving and devoted father and giving individual he was. May God provide strength and comfort to his family.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Ryan. Loss of a child is always a tragedy and difficult to understand and accept. I was a classmate (1962) of his father Pat and also lost one of my sons this past year. I could tell that Ryan's family was proud of his accomplishments through Pat's postings on classmates. Ryan and his family will be in my prayers throughout these difficult times.

I would like to wish the Freel Family our Prayers and Condolences. Pat Freel was a resident of ours and would visit the rental office, and we saw how proud he was of his sons and what a lucky father he was. We felt that the boys would play sports and enjoy them as much as their father did. This occurred back in the 1981 era. I know that the family feels as if their hearts will never heal from Ryan's sudden death. I pray that time will help the healing process, but I also believe that when we lose someone, we hold on to a special place in our hearts that we always held them in and will always keep for them. Over time you will find that memories of Ryan, will make you smile and cry. But Ryan will not be forgotten due to them. May God Bless your family, and help you through this difficult time.

Today a little piece of my heart was laid to rest. Ryan you had my heart from the first time I met you. We have laughed, cried, joked, smiled and had good times and bad times together. I would never go back and change any of it. You taught me how to live my life for today and not look back at yesterday, to have hope for tomorrow and to NEVER SAY NEVER!. I am truly blessed to have had you in my life. You were an amzing friend that will remain near and dear to my heart. Thank you for the amazing memories you hve given me. I will cherish them forever. One of my fondest memories is when the you and the girls came to visit me at work and we played dress up and played like we were manneuines in the window. We had the best time acting like we were little kids just like the girls. My heart goes out to your mom, Clark and the girls. You were such an amazing father and your eyes just lit up any time you were with them. I am truly blessed to have been introduced to them and have such an amazing friendship with your mom now as a result. Thank you for that. You will never be forgotten Ryan Freel. I look forward to the day that we will all see you again in Heaven. You will always have a special place in my heart!

I have a very heavy heart after attending the visitation for Ryan this evening. Ryan touched so many lives and meant so much to my family, "The Sams". My fondest memory of Ryan is leaving the keys to my car in my locker during school hours so him and my cousin, Kevin could take my car off campus. :) My heart breaks for his three beautiful girls which I had the honor to meet this evening.
