Harry Joseph Littel, 70 VISTA -- Surrounded by his loving wife and family, Harry Joseph Littel, 70, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 7, 2008 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on December 11, 1937 in Madison, Wisconsin to Helen and Michael Littel, Harry graduated from East High School in 1956 then enlisted and served in the Wisconsin National Guard. He spent his professional life as an air traffic controller; 12 years at Seattle Center and eight years in San Diego approach control. Harry was a passionate and gifted golfer and longtime member at Shadowridge Country Club, winning many prestigious club titles, including the Senior Club Championship five times, Presidents Cup Championship, five time winner of the Sunburst Classic and he represented the French team on the St. Maarten Cup every year since its inception in 1998. He was the recipient of the prestigious George Hossalla Award, which recognizes the highest achievement at Shadowridge for years of continued commitment to committees and projects. A fixture at the club, a game with Harry was always in high demand. Known for his prowess as a ball striker (even with an occasional bout with the shanks) with a particularly uncooperative putter, games with Harry were always memorable. At Shadowridge especially, Harry leaves behind an army of friends. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Sharon Littel; beloved sisters, Helen Marie(Edward) Keller and Kathleen(James) Wirth; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Thompson and Patricia (Chuck) Eddy; mother-in-law, Clara Robinson; 13 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews whom he adored. He is preceded in death by his parents and great nephew Nicholas. A memorial Mass and Rosary will be said at 10 am on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel Street, Carlsbad, CA 92009, followed by a celebration of life at Shadowridge Country Club, 1980 Gateway Dr., Vista, CA 92081.
